Shikakai also known as “Hair Fruit” commonly used in hair care rituals. It is prepared by drying and grinding the dried shikakai pods or fruit of shikakai plant.

Shikakai is renowned for its natural cleansing properties. It contains saponins, which creates a leather when mixed with water, making it an effective and mild alternative to commercial shampoos.

Unlike some harsh chemical-based hair cleansers, shikakai is gentle on the hair and scalp. It helps cleaning the hair without stripping it off its natural oils.

DIY:

Shikakai Powder (2 tbsps) Amla Powder (2 tbsps) Reetha pods (4-5) Water (2 cups) Mix all the herbs and add 2 cups of boiled water. Allow the mixture to steep and cool for several hours or overnight. Strain it and your homemade hair cleanser is ready to be used.
